ROVER Became Operational on 2/25/03.
• As of May 2008, 18,143 spays and neuters have been performed on the ROVER unit. If the parents or offspring of these pets had been permitted to have one litter in their first year over 72,572 unwanted puppies and kittens would have been born.
• ROVER travels 4 days per week.
• ROVER is staffed by a Veterinarian, Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician, Veterinary Assistant and Project Coordinator.
• ROVER is a 32’ Fleetwood RV that was professionally converted to a “surgical unit on wheels.”
• ROVER is equipped with state-of-the–art equipment including: 2 anesthesia machines, digital scales, autoclave, surgical lighting, refrigerator, freezer, microwave, microscope, 2 sinks with hot and cold water, central heat and air, as well as all needed medical supplies.
• EVERY ROVER client receives a post op call from the LVMT making sure recovery is progressing as expected.
• ROVER provides not only the pet spay or neuter surgery, but also pain medication, as well as vaccinations including rabies with pet license, flea/tick treatment and a nail trim.
• Participants qualify for the free service by bringing documents that show they are receiving the following assistance:
1. Food stamp card
2. Disability letter
3. V. A. Disability
4. Last year’s tax return statement
5. Free school lunch program card
6. Public Housing rent receipt
7. Section 8 letter
8. Social Security income proof
9. WIC documentation
