Does NHA currently have space to take in an animal?

Due to the high volume of requests to bring animals to the shelter, we can only make appointments one week at a time. Please call after 10 AM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays to see if we are able to accept the animal(s). The shelter's phone number is (615) 352-1010.

Does NHA offer low-cost spay and neuter services?

Yes - we offer two spay/neuter options!
Those who qualify for the ROVER program can make an appointment for free spay/neuter of their pets. Please see the ROVER page for details.
We also offer discounted spay and neuter certificates that are provided through Friends of Animals. The cost is as follows:
Male Dogs: $64.00
Female Dogs: $90.00
Male Cats: $51.00
Female Cats: $65.00
You may purchase these certificates at the shelter. We will provide you with a list of area veterinarians who participate in this program.

Does NHA have a waiting list for people looking for a certain breed of animal?

No, the volume of requests is such that we encourage people to call as often as they like to see what is currently available or check the NHA website for regular updates to our available animal lists.

What should I do if I have knowledge of an animal that is being abused or neglected?

Call the Metro Cruelty Department immediately at 862-7928, 862-7929 or 862-7930.

Does NHA pick up strays?

No, but we do take in strays that are brought in to us by the people who find them. Metro Animal Control has a service for pick up stray animals.

Does NHA euthanize animals?

The Nashville Humane Association is a low-kill shelter. This means we do euthanize animals, but only if it is necessary due to illness or behavior problems.
