Spay and Neuter

ROVER, our little blue dog, roams all over Davidson County in a BIG yellow bus looking to help qualifying cats and dogs with free spay and neuter surgeries.  The ROVER bus (a 32’ Fleetwood RV) is a surgical unit on wheels, equipped with state-of-the–art equipment including: 2 anesthesia machines, digital scales, autoclave, surgical lighting, microscope, as well as medical supplies.

ROVER travels four days a week and is staffed by a Veterinarian, Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician (LVMT), Veterinary Assistant and Project Coordinator.

 Qualifying pets receive:

  • spay or neuter surgery
  • pain medication
  • vaccinations, including rabies with pet license
  • flea/tick treatment
  • nail trim
  • post-op call from the LVMT to assure recovery is progressing well

To qualify, participants must bring proof of the following:

  • food stamp card, free school lunch program card, or WIC documentation
  • disability letter or V.A. disability letter
  • last year’s tax return statement
  • public housing rent receipt or Section 8 letter
  • Social Security income documentation
  • Davidson County residence

Additional donations are greatly appreciated so that we may continue to meet the needs of animals in our community.

Since February 25, 2003, more than 38,350 spay and neuter surgeries have been performed on the ROVER unit, preventing over 120,788 unwanted puppies and kittens from being born in just the first year post-surgery.  To celebrate, we sing the following: “R-O-V-E-R, R-O-V-E-R, R-O-V-E-R, and ROVER was his name-O!”
